The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has dismissed media reports suggesting that Ghana will face a nationwide power outage on Sunday, July 13, 2025. The Ministry described such claims as false and misleading.
Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor had earlier announced that temporary power interruptions may occur due to scheduled maintenance and a shutdown by ENI to boost gas production. However, his remarks were reportedly misinterpreted by some media outlets.
Clarifying the situation, the Ministry’s Spokesperson and Head of Communication, Richmond Rockson, emphasized that there are no plans for a nationwide blackout or a return to prolonged power cuts, popularly known as “dumsor.”
“I’ve seen some misreporting claiming there will be a nationwide blackout — that is simply not true,” Rockson said. He reassured the public that the Ministry has put in place measures to manage any temporary disruptions and prevent widespread outages.
