The Director-General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq), on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim (MP), at the ministry’s headquarters in Accra.

The high-level meeting focused on deepening collaboration between the Ghana Prisons Service and local governance structures, particularly Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), in support of inmate rehabilitation and agricultural mechanization programmes.

Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie highlighted the Service’s vision to enhance reintegration efforts through community-based initiatives and sustainable livelihood training, especially in agriculture.

She emphasized the importance of local government support in scaling these efforts for long-term impact.

Hon. Ibrahim, in response, commended the Ghana Prisons Service for its transformative vision and pledged the ministry’s full support.

He further promised to engage other ministers and Members of Parliament to champion and sustain the service’s initiatives across the country.

The meeting marks a significant step toward institutional collaboration aimed at boosting rehabilitation outcomes and using agriculture as a strategic tool to empower inmates and reduce recidivism.
