Former Vice President and 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has delivered a stirring message of reflection and hope at the NPP’s 2025 National Annual Delegates Conference, held in Accra today.

Addressing party delegates from across the country, Dr Bawumia admitted he was filled with “mixed feelings” as he stood before them—his remarks a clear reference to the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

“It is with mixed feelings that I welcome you all to this national delegates conference,” Dr Bawumia said. “It is a joy to see the representation of our party from across the country converge once again for conference. I however would have wished that we would have been doing this under different circumstances.”

Despite the sombre tone reflecting the party’s recent electoral loss, Dr Bawumia struck a note of hope and determination. He encouraged party members to remain committed to the NPP’s rebuilding efforts and to view the present period as an opportunity for renewal.

“Yet still I am filled with hope, that as we reflect and reorganize, we will soon be given the opportunity once again by our countrymen and women to serve and assist in rebuilding and transforming our nation,” he said.

He emphasised the importance of unity in moving the party forward, reminding delegates that the NPP’s strength has always stemmed from its ability to remain cohesive even in challenging times.

“The task ahead of us is one that we have to conduct with diligence and measure. In times like this, we should be focused on strengthening our bonds of unity and reinvesting in the ties that bind us. Our foundation and our strength has always been in building a united party,” Dr Bawumia noted.

The conference, which brought together regional and national executives, Members of Parliament, and grassroots organisers, is part of the NPP’s internal reorganisation efforts as it repositions itself following the 2024 elections.
