The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed profound sorrow and solidarity with the nation following the devastating military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of all eight individuals on board.
The individuals included Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
In a solemn statement released on Wednesday, August 6, the NPP described the incident as a “national tragedy of unbearable weight,” extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the entire country.
The NPP emphasized that the pain of the loss reaches beyond the immediate families, describing the victims as patriots who devoted their lives to safeguarding and building Ghana.
“The New Patriotic Party is reeling with sorrow and grief following the tragic crash of a military helicopter that claimed the lives of all eight persons onboard,” the party said.
“This is a profound loss to the entire nation they worked so selflessly to serve.”
The party acknowledged the deep anguish facing the families and offered comforting words of unity and prayer:
“We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. No words can truly capture the anguish of this moment. We pray that the Almighty God grants them comfort and strength during this excruciatingly difficult period.”
The statement also called for urgent steps to uncover the cause of the crash and to ensure accountability:
“We call for a thorough, transparent, and swift investigation into the cause of the crash. The dignity of the lives lost demands answers and accountability to prevent future occurrences.”
In a final note of national reflection, the NPP urged all Ghanaians to unite in collective grief and support:
“In this time of mourning, we call on all Ghanaians to come together in unity, prayer, and compassion. Let us stand with the families left behind. Let us console and strengthen one another.”
Honouring the fallen, the party concluded:
“May the souls of these eight heroes rest in perfect peace until the last day of the Resurrection, when we shall meet again.”
