The Adenta Circuit Court, presided over by Her Honour Angela Attachie, has granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 each with two sureties, one of whom must be justified, to two women accused of making offensive remarks about President John Dramani Mahama during a TikTok live broadcast.
The accused persons, Priscilla Duah Birago, a 29-year-old National Service personnel, and Charity Dede Tetteh, a 29-year-old beautician, were arraigned on two counts — conspiracy to commit crime and offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace — contrary to Sections 23(1) and 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
According to the facts presented in court, the two women hosted a live-streamed discussion on August 6, 2025, where they allegedly made derogatory comments directed at the President.
In the broadcast, they were heard saying, among other things, that “we would have been happier if the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, was involved in the helicopter crash and dwarfs had eaten him up.” They also claimed that “a lot of people are dying under his tenure of office.”
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, stated that the comments were offensive and provocative, with the potential to disturb public peace.
Investigators later traced the video to the TikTok account of the first accused, identified by the username “Abena Birago.”
Law enforcement officers arrested the two women and secured forensic evidence of the broadcast to support the case.
In court, Chief Inspector Lanyo opposed bail, insisting that the accused persons should remain in custody pending further investigations.
The presiding judge, however, admitted them to bail with the stated conditions.
The case has been adjourned to allow investigations to continue.
