The Bono Regional Police Command has interdicted some officers captured in a viral video allegedly extorting money from motorists.
In a statement signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer of the Command, the police said the officers involved have been identified and taken off duty to allow for a thorough and impartial investigation.
The Command noted that it has launched a full-scale probe into the incident to establish the facts and ensure that appropriate disciplinary measures are taken in line with police regulations.
“The Command assures the public of its commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability among its personnel,” the statement added.
The interdiction follows growing public criticism on social media after the video surfaced, showing uniformed officers allegedly demanding and receiving cash from drivers along a highway in the region.
