The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral, Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah has said the inclusion of a Bible Museum and Biblical Gardens have the potential to attract the world to Ghana.
Speaking at a fundraising ceremony last Sunday, September 5, 2021, Apostle Opoku Onyinah, officially unveiled strategies to raise funds to support the building of the $250 million project.
He said the Board of Trustee is going to show how Christianity has impacted good governance, education science, good health, human rights, liberty and freedoms and many others.
“We trust that if we are able to put it up people would know the contributions that African has made to Christianity and how the Bible has impacted society.
“Therefore, we are appealing to critics to take everything cool towards the putting up of the cathedral and I believe that if the project is completed and commissioned, people would come to understand the wealth what we have than and can actually see it as a gift or something that can be the visible sign of the head-quarters of Christianity that has moved to the global south with Ghana as a center.” he said
Giving out strategies by the Board of Trustee to raise funds to support the project, he said the board adopted a strategy in August where churches in Ghana will be expected to dedicate one week for prayers and on Sunday, a special offering would be given to support the project.
Prof. Onyimah also indicated that the prayer period is to be labelled ‘National Cathedral Week,’ during which the weekdays will be used to pray for the country and cathedral project, and on that Sunday, a special offering is to be taken for the Cathedral project.
“Corporate bodies in Ghana as well as Ghanaian Christian churches in the diaspora will also be contacted to make a contribution towards the project,” he said.
“Two weeks after this national launch, that is, September 19, 2021, we appeal to all churches to launch the fundraising at their levels to engender greater enthusiasm and participation.
“During such programmes, free-will offerings and pledges are expected to be taken to support the Cathedral project,” he urged.
He said if the Board of Trustees can get one million Ghanaians who would commit GH¢100.00 per month for three years, the total cost of the project would be realized.
The building of the Cathedral is in fulfilment of a pledge President Akufo-Addo revealed he made to God before winning the 2016 elections.
The 5,000-seater auditorium Cathedral project will also have a gracious national park for all Ghanaians, Bible Museum, Biblical Gardens, bring new skills, technology, and jobs to the country, and act as a beacon to national, regional, and international tourists.
Government has further revealed that the Cathedral is expected to be officially opened on March 6, 2024.
