A blogger with Dklassgh.net, Samuel Amadotor, has been granted GH¢50,000 bail by an Accra Circuit Court after being arrested for allegedly circulating false information about the former Board Chair of the National Communication Authority (NCA), Okatakye Boakye Danquah Ababio II.
The court, presided over by Her Ladyship Evelyn Asamoah, admitted him to bail with two sureties. Amadotor is facing two counts: publishing false news with intent to cause fear and panic under Section 208(1) of the Criminal Offences Act (Act 29), and publishing false news under Section 123 of the Electronic Transactions Act (Act 772).
He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Following submissions from lawyers on both sides, the judge granted him bail, although the court did not state the specific grounds for the decision. His legal counsel, Jerry Avenorgbo, expressed satisfaction with the ruling.
The case is expected to proceed as the trial continues after his release.
In a statement issued on Thursday, November 20, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) confirmed that Amadotor was picked up with support from the National Signals Bureau (NSB) after Mr. Ababio lodged an official complaint. According to investigators, the blogger admitted during interrogation that he published the false information upon instructions from one Chairman Michael Yeboah.
