The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) had earlier announced the disruption in water supply to some parts of Accra beginning Monday, September 13, 2021.
The disruption was to enable engineers replace some faulty valves on the main 900mm transmission pipelines, which impede water flow and cause serious challenges, such as water losses, in the distribution lines.
In their statement, management of GWCL implored costumers to be affected (those in the western part of the Accra metropolis) to store enough water for usage during the period of shut down.
The affected areas included Weija, Gbawe, Bortianor, Kokrobite, Kasoa, Mallam, Sakaman, Odorkor, Dansoman, Mamprobi, Agege, Korle-Gorno, Korle-Bu, Laterbiokorshie, Mataheko, North Industrial Area, Kaneshie, Awudome Estates, North Kaneshie, Abeka La Paz, Kwashieman, Anyaa, Santa Maria, Ablekuma, Alhaji, Tabora, Tesano, Dome, Taifa, Achimota and surrounding communities.
Consequently, the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah paid a working visit to inspect ongoing works on site in Weija, and has lauded the efforts being made by GWCL to restore water supply to the affected areas.
The necessary equipment, logistics and personnel required to execute the project had already been deployed and work is expected to be completed today, September 16, 2021.
The affected areas will soon see water flowing in their homes and communities after the initial test run.
