The Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Protection (MoGCSP) is partaking in the third edition of the Gender Conference currently underway in Accra.

This year’s edition is on the theme ‘Gendered Dynamics of Return and Reintegration Towards Sustainable Development’.

The Gender Conference 2021 is organized by the Ghanaian-German Centre for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration- powered by GIZ Ghana in partnership with MoGCSP and MELR.

Speaking on behalf of the Caretaker Minister for MoGCSP, the Chief Director, Dr. Afisah Zakariah said migration plays a vital role in the society which leads to positive and negative impacts on individuals and the nation at large.

She indicated that MoGCSP is a key stakeholder in gender and migration issues and has the mandate to coordinate and ensure gender equality, equity, survival and development of all.

The Chief Director remarked that the Ministry through its Departments and Secretariats regularly collaborates with relevant stakeholders to handle issues of irregular migration both internally and externally.

Dr. Afisah Zakariah disclosed that the Ministry provided assistance to some return trafficked and abused victims by providing shelter, skills, training and comprehensive primary care. This initiative she said enabled victims to contribute their quota to the society.

The conference is expected to provide a platform that brings together stakeholders drawn from Academia, Civil Society, Government and Development sectors, among others to discuss, exchange and contribute ideas to policy and interventions on gender and migration.

The two- day conference which started on Tuesday, 26th October will end on Wednesday, 27th October, 2021.
