There is a seeming hesitance among most Ghanaians, particularly the youth in taking the Covid-19 jab although there are available vaccines and on-going vaccination exercise in all 16 regions of the country.
So far, Ghana has administered 3, 102, 396 doses of covid vaccines. This means that about 5.1 per cent of the population has been fully vaccinated.
Covid-19 infections continue to see a downward trend in the country with19 new infections reported on average each day. This equals to 2 per cent of the peak daily average reported in July this year.
Although the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced that there are over 3million vaccines to be deployed for use among the public, most people are yet to receive their jab for many reasons, best known to them.
Currently, vaccination of Moderna and Pfizer vaccines is on-going in the capital, Accra but the turnout at these vaccination centres is very low. Most people only see the need to Vaccinate when they are about to travel out of the country.
The number of persons who have succumbed to Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Ghana has increased.
Per the latest update from the Ghana Health Service (GHS), the country’s death toll as of October 24, 2021, stands at 1,175.
Some 40 persons who have contracted the virus are also in the severe condition category, while 13 are also in critical condition.
A total of 36 new cases have also been recorded. These were recorded in some four regions in the country.
These are the Greater Accra, Central, Western and Ashanti Regions.
Since the onset of the outbreak in the country on Thursday, March 12, 2020, a total of 130,077 cases have been recorded.
Also, 127,121 persons who contracted the virus have recovered.
The Government started vaccinating its citizens at the beginning of 2021.
Some vaccines being used to inoculate Ghanaians are AstraZeneca, Johnson and Johnson, Moderna, and Sputnik V.
Ghana has so far taken custody of over 6 million vaccine doses from different sources.
According to the Ghana Health Service, it has, as of October 26, 2021, administered over 2.9 million vaccines.
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) started another round of vaccination last week Friday, November 5, 2021 to administer Moderna vaccines for those yet to receive any Covid-19 jabs, however there were few people available to be inoculated when the Republic Press visited some vaccination centres within the Greater Accra region.
The exercise is scheduled to end on Wednesday, November 10.
This is part of a target by government to vaccinate about 20 million of the adult population by the end of 2021.
Several mobile sites have also been mounted in Accra to complement the exercise at known points and health facilities.
The Moderna vaccines will be dispensed to persons 18 years and above who have not received any of the Covid-19 vaccines.
So far, Ghanaians have been administered with AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
Pfizer vaccines are expected to also be administered this week.
