Cashew Traders and Exporters Association of Ghana (CETAG) have announced a new price for cashew nut.
At the ceremony to announce the Cashew Minimum Producer Price for the 2022 Crop Season, the National Chairman for the Cashew Traders and Exporters Association of Ghana (CETAG) who doubles as the Board Member representing the Cashew Industry on the Tree Crops Development Authority, Mr Alex Owusu Adjei on Wednesday, 15th December, 2021 said the new price is expected to help harvest the potential of Ghana’s tree crops industry and become a major economic driver.
The new price announcement was held by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Tree Crops Development Authority at Viglosam Lodge, Wenchi in the Bono Region.
The trade of Cashew amongst other five cash crops – Shea, Mango, Coconut, rubber, and oil palm regulated by The Tree Crop Development Authority after its establishment in 2019 by Act 1010.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Alex Owusu Adjei encouraged the Cashew Traders, Exporters as well as Farmers to accept the new Minimum Producer Price which was announced by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture through the Sector Minister, Hon Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
He pleaded with the Traders, Exporters and Farmers to adopt and adhere to best post-harvest practices to ensure that produce from Ghana becomes competitive and acceptable on the international market like Ghana’s cocoa.
The Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr. Yaw Frimpong Addo announced the new producer price for 2021-2022 crop season as GHS 5 per kilogram of raw Cashew nut which will be used to compensate the Farmers for planting, harvesting, drying and pickling of the Cashew nuts to be bought by the Exporters.
Also at the ceremony were Hon. Yaw Frimpong Addo, The Chief Executive Officer for the Tree Crops Development Authority, Hon. William Quaitoo and some officers from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture as well as the Tree Crops Development Authority.
