The mining city of Ghana and one of the biggest economies in the country is about to witness some major projects and development in the township.

According to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tarkwa Nsuem Municipality, Mr Benjamin Kesse indicated that their aim is to turn the township into the ‘Johannesburg of Ghana’ as there will be the construction of an airport to improve transportation and boost the economy as well.

Speaking on Skyy Power 93.5FM on Thursday, December 16, Mr Kesse revealed that the project is being funded by all the mining companies in Tarkwa (Gold Fields, Anglogold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine (AAIL), GMC and others) as they have teamed up to make this gargantuan project a reality.

Also, the airport will be intercity as you can take a flight from there to any part of the country.

Speaking on the location of the project, he explained that the Chief of Agona Wassa has already secured land, what is left now is for the soil to be tested to access the suitability for the construction of the project.

The soil testing and the technical aspect of the project will begin in early 2022, and a budget for the project has already been estimated which works will begin as soon as the green light is given.

However, this will be a major face uplift for the town, as it will be easy access for investors, leading to more establishment and a booming economy.

There will also be the redevelopment of the Tarkwa Market Circle and community centre which the designs have been made available and works will also begin in 2022. These projects are been funded by the government.

Given his reason, he indicated that the market and community centre are in a dilapidated condition and looking at the huge economy of the Tarkwa township and their contribution to the national revenue, it is necessary to redevelop some infrastructure to boost and widen their economic activities in the township.
