Two (2) persons travelling from Tema to Accra have met their untimely death on the Tema-Accra Motorway opposite Samara Company Limited (SASSO GH) on Wednesday January 19, 2022.

The Rescue Team at Motorway Fire Station on arrival at the accident scene at said, three (3) vehicles namely; a Honda CR-V with registration number GR 3730-10, a Sino Tipper Truck with registration number GN 6708-21 and an Opel Astra with registration number GW 5819-10 had been involved in a bloody accident.

Two (2) people who were believed to have died were found trapped in the Opel Astra car.

Both the Sino Tipper Truck and the Honda CRV vehicles were heading to Accra from Tema. The Tipper Truck was fully loaded with sand when the accident happened. The Opel Astra car was also heading towards Tema from Accra.

Report says, the driver of the Honda CRV crossed the Tipper Truck which led to the accident.

In an attempt not to run over the Honda CR-V, the Sino Tipper Truck veered off the road and collided head-on with the Opel Astra car on the other lane.

The Tipper Truck then went over the bonnet and the front driver and passenger compartment of the Opel Astra car trapping the two (2) passengers onboard the car. This, however, resulted in the eventual death of the driver and one other passenger on-board the Opel Astra car later on in the day.

The Tipper Truck had fallen on its nearside with its head and one of the front tyres still lying on the bonnet and part of the windscreen of the badly mangled Opel Astra car.

The Honda CR-V car was found in a nearby ditch partly damaged on its offside with no one in the car.

The extrication team checked the Tipper Truck vehicle which was lying on its nearside but no casualty was found in it.

The sand in the bucket of the Tipper Truck had poured on the ground as a result of the accident.

The two (2) motionless bodies were handed over to the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) of the Police Service to be transported to the Tema General Hospital for further investigation.

The Road Traffic Collision Team managed to remove the fallen head of the Sino Tipper Truck vehicle from the badly mangled Opel Astra’s bonnet and front driver and passenger compartment to make way for the extrication of the two (2) trapped motionless bodies onboard.

The Extrication team from the Fire Service ensured that the mangled vehicles posing as a hazard were cleared off the road to forestall another vehicle running into them.

Two (2) other persons in the Sino Tipper Truck who sustained various injuries were rescued by the public and sent to the Tema General Hospital by some men of the Ghana Police Service for further medical treatment before the Fire Service Rescuers arrived at the accident scene.

The driver and/or passenger in the Honda CR-V car escaped unhurt but the car suffered some partial damages.
