GPS team up with Hanns Seidel Foundation to organize Capacity Building course for Police

The Ghana Police Service in collaboration with German based NGO, Hanns Seidel Foundation is organising a four day capacity building course on Police Professionalism for twenty Middle Management Personnel from Central East, Accra Region, and Headquarters.

The workshop is themed, “Enhancing Police Professionalism in terms of human rights and community engagement in the interest of public safety and security.

The Director General of Research, Planning and Transformation, DCOP Dr. Ernest Owusu who opened the course on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) said, Police professionalism involves dedication, integrity and responsibility that makes them successful in their area of operation.

He added that, the Police must also safeguard the public interest to perform their job effectively because ethical conduct greatly impact public interest.

“We’ve to do our work in such a way that the public can trust us and when we have the trust anything we do will go on well” he said.

DCOP Dr Owusu also noted that crime prevention involves the active cooperation of local residents and organisation hence the community policing concept that they are setting by police and civilian collaboration.

He noted that, base on the personal contact, interaction and cooperation with them, the public, mutual respect and trust between the Civilian and the personnel will be achieved so that the goal of safety and security will also be achieved.

“At the end of the course it is expected that the Police personnel will act professionally to the satisfactory of the public to build the relationship, mutual respect and also expect the civilian to access the Service’s provisions from the comfort of their home” he said.

The Hanns-Seidel-Foundation is one of seven non-profit political organizations in the Federal Republic of Germany and has been supporting the promotion of democracy, the rule of law and peace across the world.
