The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has said, it will not accept the decision taken by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to defer for one (1) year until they can provide their school fees.
Dennis Appiah larbi – Ampofo, the president of the NUGS whiles speaking to Kwame Koranteng on Republic FM’s Anopa Dawuro on Thursday, April 21 said, although it understands the university needs funds to run its affairs but it believes that Ghana and the world at large are crawling economically hence, it will not accept the decision being taken by the management of the school.
“We have spoken to some authorities behind the scenes and you shall hear of it very soon but firstly, NUGS does not and cannot accept the decision being taken by the school, yes we believe the school need the money to run the school but we must face the reality, things are hard, Ghana and the world is suffering and laws were made for humans and so sometimes you can think about the people first and you must be not be surprised that 6,000 students cannot pay their schools because things are rough”.
However, he noted that after series of engagements with some of the students, they admitted that there is no money for them to address the anomalies they have in the school.
Meanwhile, the President acknowledged the school’s ability to provide more staying for the students to write their mid-sem.
The KNUST out of the 85,000 students has asked a dozen of 6,000 to either pay 70% of their fees or they will be deferred or stay home for one year.
