The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong and the Chief Executive for the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly, Lawyer Yaw Owusu Addo have cut sod for the commencement of construction of a new building for the Assembly.
The event, which took place on Friday, August 19, was climaxed and accompanied by the Eastern Regional Council of state member, Mr Paa Kofi Ansong and Atibie-Kwahu Hene, Barima Asante Bɛteani.
Giving his address, the MCE indicated that the new Assembly building is a major achievement that is coming to the Kwahu West Municipality.
“Today, we are witnessing a major achievement in the Kwahu West Municipality since President Kuffour gave us the freedom in 2004. Assemblies that came few years and even last year have an Assembly complex and it’s been more than 18 years, but today, with the help of the Regional Minister and the Council of State Member, we are going to have an Assembly.
The building the Assembly is currently occupying belongs to the Public Works Department (P.W.D) and with the support of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Assembly is going to have its complex”, the MCE said.
According to the MCE, the Assembly is currently renting most of its offices within the municipality, and even at some point, court issues are involved because of some family-related issues as to who should be taking the rent proceeds.
Lawyer Yaw Owusu Addo commended Nana Atibie-Kwahu Hene for providing the Assembly with such vast land for the project.
“We are also commending the Atibie-Kwahu Hene for giving us this land for the complex”, he added. He further called on the contractor to complete the project on time.
The Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong called on the people to rally behind the Akufo-Addo-led administration to provide the good people of Ghana the best of governance.
He pledged that the construction of the new Assembly block be monitored to ensure that it becomes a reality.
The Minister added that other ancillary roads that will lead to the new Assembly block are being discussed with the Roads Minister, Amoako Atta to be constructed in accordance with the complex to ease movements.
“As we have started, I’m pledging on behalf of the government that this is not going to be like what we used to hear. If God permits us life, just like the contractor said, the government will support him and make sure that this project becomes a reality. I was discussing with authorities that we are going to talk to the Roads Minister to help us construct the roads that will lead to the Assembly to make it more efficient and accessible for everyone to visit the Assembly. My last advice is that, if this project is completed, we should all be able to protect the facility and ensure that it brings us benefits”, he said.

Addressing the gathering, the Council of State Member, Mr Paa Kofi Ansong revealed that he will liaise with the MP and the MCE to find out what is holding up the construction of the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium as sports is also one of the factors that bring human development.
He also pledged that a continuous discussion will continue to be held with the various sectoral heads and the government to bring more developments to the people of Kwahu.
“With the Council of State meetings, we don’t put our discussions in the public domain so 8 can’t tell you everything but I will go to our traditional authorities and have a discussion with them. I will have a meeting with the MP, and the MCE to find out what is holding back the construction of the Nkawkaw Sports stadium because sports is one of the factors that bring developments and we see a lot of sports projects in other parts of the country. I will also plead that, in most of our security reports, we realize that there are a lot of Chieftaincy disputes and other things. We should know that it’s the only person who can become a king and after that, we should accept our differences and bring peace and development. I will urge that we also protect the land from encroachers”, he lamented.
