Ahead of the 2021 Easter celebrations, the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has cautioned the public to abide by COVID-19 protocols to prevent the spread of the virus.
In a statement, the association cautioned the general public to “adhere strictly to all COVID-19 preventive measures, such as social distancing, use of facemasks, hand washing under running with soap, and use of alcohol-based hand sanitisers.”
The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) is also admonishing government to ban any mass gathering associated with the Easter festivities in a bid to contain the spread of covid-19.
A statement issued by the GMA said the move is crucial in order to protect the gains made in further reducing the number of cases in the country.
“Mass gathering usually associated with the Easter festivities such as church conventions, picnics, beach parties and other forms of celebrations as usually seen in Kwahu area (enclave) should be strictly prohibited and same enforced by Central Government (through the law enforcement agencies especially the Ghana Police Service) the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) as well as traditional authorities,” the GMA statement said.
It added that “It is important for Ghanaians to note that, non-adherence to the COVID-19 preventive measures has the potential to further escalate the spread of the disease in our communities, thereby eroding the moderate gains made so far.”
The GMA is also advising the public to strictly adhere to the COVID-19 protocols since the pandemic is still a major health threat.
