More than two hundred aged people, widows and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Kwahu Nkwatia in the Eastern Region have been presented with assorted items as part of the new year festivities.

The items include chicken, oil and an undisclosed amount of money presented by the Nkosuohene of Kwahu Nkwatia, and Nana Owiredu Wadie at a ceremony at Nkwatia to climax the holiday celebrations.

Nana Wadie said it is only appropriate to lend a helping hand to the vulnerable to make them feel part of society.

He called on the people to champion the course of unity and promote love to contribute to development.

Nana Wadie noted that his vision is to establish a factory in the area to help persons with disability to work and earn a living and called for the support of all to make it a reality.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Nana Owiredu Wadie for the support and called on the District Assemblies to make the disbursement of the disability fund more transparent to avoid suspicion.

Nana Owiredu Wadie who as well serves as the Chairman of KABAKA Foundation in his address stated that it’s very paramount for all Ghanaians to show love and affection to the less privileged in our society.

“Just as God said, we must help and love ourselves. If you look at these elderly persons, those who are aged and even mothers who are widows, it’s very important and nice that we do these things for them. It may not be enough but at least, some cash, fowls and things that can prepare them food, will put some smiles on their faces. We did it from our hearts and we know it’s done in God’s direction. We pray that God directs our path and shows us the way”, he emphasized.

President of the Nkwatia Physically Challenged Association, Mr. Boateng commended Nana Owiredu Wadie for his efforts to alleviate poverty in the area.

He further appealed to the government to make all the necessary arrangements to ensure that the physically challenged in society gets a factory where they can work with their skills in order not to become a burden to society. He also appealed to the government to as a matter of urgency release their common fund to support their businesses.

“We have an association that supports persons living with disabilities. In such situations, we write to the Assembly to support such people whether they want to learn a trade and that’s exactly what we’re doing. Today, we’ve been graced by Nana Owiredu Wadie I. He surprised us with Christmas presents. We thank him and his family for their continuous support, we appreciate it. We’re still appealing that they support us with a factory where we can operate as a workshop. Some of us have learned cobbler, seamstress and other trades. Once again, we are calling on the Govt to respond and release our common fund on time to ease our finances”, he stressed.

The KABAKA Foundation is undertaking projects in Education, sanitation, Rural communities development and health, as well as human development.
