President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Kwabena Yeboah has expressed his displeasure with the country’s poor performance at continental and world football tournaments.
Speaking at the 47th Sports Writers Association of Ghana‘s (SWAG) Awards at the Accra International Conference Center, he stated the clubs grievously failed to make any impact in Africa which he described as “a trend that is agonizingly becoming an enduring pattern”.
According to him, the athletes and boxers who attended the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham between July 28th and August 8 made modest gains, notwithstanding the purport-less support from the ministries and the country as a whole.
The SWAG President blamed the poor performance of the various athletes on the lack of aided funds thus making it difficult for athletes to have better conditions for their training sections and other engagements.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kwabena Yeboah the president has urged the Government to act now and pay critical attention to the sports facilities in the country for that is the only means to siphon talent within the country.
“The era of throwing hundred thousands of dollars to management members of our Football National teams should be over”. Mr. Kwabena Yeboah to Sports Minister
