The Ministry of Information has advised all media houses and personnel located in areas where conflicts and sporadic violence occur to conduct themselves in ways to promote peace.
As today, Monday February, 13, 2023 marks World Radio Day the Ministry of Information in its capacity seeks to draw the attention of media houses and personnel across the country to conduct themselves as they believe the conduct of media houses and personnel occasionally escalate tensions.
In a statement signed by Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister of Information, as the world celebrates Radio Day with the theme “Radio and Peace”, radio has the unique ability to reach people in every corner of the world and has proven to be a valuable tool in conflict prevention and peace building through education or information dissemination and by providing a platform for marginalized communities to share their stories.
The statement further added that, in recognition of World Radio Day, organizers and communities worldwide are coming together to celebrate the power of radio and its contributions to peace and conflict prevention.
“Radio has contributed immensely to the growth of our democracy and serves as an essential tool for accountability, public education, and countering misinformation”, the statement added
“So on a day like this, as we celebrate World Radio Day with the theme Radio and Peace, we would like to, in particular, remind our colleagues who operate in places where sometimes tensions may rise and explode into a conflict that we have a specific responsibility to help in the exercise to bring peace and unity, and not necessarily fuel tensions”, the statement concluded.
