The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has called all flagbearer aspirants and their supporters to approach campaigning with respect for each other ahead of the party’s presidential primaries in November.
As the 2024 general elections approach, the party seeks to elect a candidate to lead the party to retain power, and with ten (10) aspirants vying for the position, campaigns have intensified with each aspirant touring the country to sell their message to delegates.
With some aspirants and supporters resorting to personal attacks against rival aspirants, the youth organizer is of the view that the winner of the primaries will eventually need the support of all party members and the other candidates to help win the general elections.
In an interview on Peace FM, Mr. Mustapha called upon all aspirants and their followers to conduct their campaigns with mutual respect, emphasizing the need to maintain friendly and professional relationships even after the election.
“The party has concern because we want unity after the primaries because a united party is the vehicle that will take you to the general election”, he stated.
He added that “I don’t see a way former President John Dramani Mahama can defeat the winner of the NPP primaries If the membership and leadership of the party remain united, there is no way we will lose an election”.
The New Patriotic Party will hold its presidential primaries on November 4, 2023, to decide who leads the party in 2024 after a special electoral college in August to reduce the existing number of aspirants to five (5) as mandated by the party’s constitution.
