NPP Primaries: Vetting committee approves all aspirants to contest in special college

The New Patriotic Party's (NPP) presidential primaries vetting committee has given the green light to all ten (10) aspirants to contest in the party's scheduled special electoral college in August.

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries vetting committee has given the green light to all ten (10) aspirants to contest in the party’s scheduled special electoral college in August.

The vetting committee chaired by former speaker of parliament Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye after a three-day vetting process and submission of its report to the national council of the party, indicated that all ten aspirants are qualified to lead the party in terms of their ideas and vision for both the party and the country.

Confirming the committee’s submission of the report, the general secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong in a statement said “Pursuant to Article 10(3) of the New Patriotic Party’s Constitution, the Vetting Committee for the Party’s Presidential Primary Election submitted its report to the National Council through the General Secretary on Monday, July 10, 2023”.

“In the report, the Committee recommended the under-listed individuals as eligible to participate in the upcoming Presidential Primaries subject to the approval of the National Council”, the statement emphasized.

The Aspirants, former trade minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a businessman and energy expert Mr. Kwadwo Poku, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Energy Minister, Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko, Engineer Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a former Minister of State Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, a former food and Agric Minister Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, a former Minister of Justice and Attorney General and MP for Essikado-Ketan Joe Ghartey and a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Mampong Francis Addai-Nimoh will all contest in the special electoral college.

The National Council of the Party is however expected to deliberate on the Vetting Committee’s recommendations on July 20, 2023.
