The controversy surrounding the leaked tape involving a senior police officer and Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has taken a new turn as Bugri Naabu’s personal aide has been reportedly apprehended by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
Bugri Naabu revealed that his personal aide, S.K, and his receptionist, Akua, left for work in the morning but did not arrive at the office as expected.
He later received information that both individuals had been taken to the BNI office by well-armed police officers in a white car.
The arrest is believed to be connected to a leaked audio in which some individuals were heard plotting against the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. Bugri Naabu stated his desire to visit the NIB office with his lawyers to better understand the reasons behind his personal aide’s arrest. Meanwhile, Bugri Naabu has denied any involvement in the leaked tape and the alleged plot against the IGP.
He stated that even if he had knowledge of the audio recording, he would address it at the appropriate time. Bugri Naabu expressed frustration with the accusations made against him and chose to remain silent until he can refute the allegations and provide clarity on the matter.
The situation is currently under investigation, and further details are yet to emerge. The leaked tape, which surfaced on July 11, allegedly involves a prominent police commissioner and some leaders of the governing New Patriotic Party plotting to remove the IGP.
According to the recording, the plotters perceive Dampare as a potential obstacle to the party’s success in the 2024 elections.
