Don’t send Ghanaian troops to Niger – Kyiriabosom warns Akufo-Addo

The Leader and Founder of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews popularly know as Osofo Kyiriabosom, has called on President Akufo-Addo, not to listen to the advise of ECOWAS by sending Ghanaian soldiers to Niger to maintain peace.

The Leader and Founder of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews popularly know as Osofo Kyiriabosom, has called on President Akufo-Addo, not to listen to the advise of ECOWAS by sending Ghanaian soldiers to Niger to maintain peace.

According to him, Ghana is not ready to fight a neighbouring country adding that no European country has ever engage in a fight with each other.

He advised President Akufo-Addo to ďistance himself from any attempt by ECOWAS to help prevent the situation in Niger.

Addressing a press conference in Accra, Osofo Kyiriabossom, said “Ghana is not ready to fight a neighbouring country. Africa needs to unite but not to fight themselves no matter what”.

He note noted that any military invasion will compound the socio economic and security challenges confronting Ghana, saying that ECOWAS need to use diplomatic means to solve the problem.

He advised that all those pushing Ghana to Niger to give an in-depth and aftermath thought of the step.

He further stated that the people of Niger have not requested for Ghana’s help, adding that there are security issues at the Northern part of Ghana that need more troops for peace as well as the need to protect the Country’s borders against illegal immigration and presumed terrorists that need to be addressed.

“ECOWAS which was formed on May 28, 1975 has a mother organization which was the Organisation of African Unity “OAU” established in 1963 and therefore formed the African Union “AU” on July 9, 2002 in Durban South Africa which both the ECOWAS and AU shares similar or same vision; thus to have a peaceful, united, developed and safe Africa” he disclosed.

The founder and Leader of GUM said, his party shall never hesitate to embark on a serious nationwide demonstration against sending troops to Niger decision should President Akufo Addo support that.
