The National Disaster Management Organisation [NADMO] has started looking for thirty-nine illegal miners who were trapped in ‘galamsey’ pit that collapsed on Wednesday, May 26, 2021.
Report says, the incident which occurred at Denkyira Breman/Brofoyedur, a community in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region claimed at least three lives, including a victim believed to be 10 years old and two women.
Confirming the incident, the Upper Denkyira West NADMO Director, Isaac Gyasi said the deceased were trapped in an illegal small scale mining pit popularly at the outskirts of the Breman community.
According to him, the dead bodies have been removed from the pit and sent to the Dunkwa-On-Offin Government Hospital, where they have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation, identification and autopsy.
An excavator is presently on the mine land searching for the trapped people.
