For a period of two days, the team from the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection was in the North East Region to carry out a similar activity of community dialogues in selected communities.

From the 26th to 27th of October, 2023, the team visited the following communities: Fio-Naya & Fio-Sognoya in the West Mamprusi District as well as Gbankoni & Kambagu in the Bunkpurugu District.

Communities were sensitized on flagship social protection programmes that assist the poor, vulnerable and excluded in society such as the Ghana School Feeding Programme, LEAP, NHIS among others.

As part of this initiative, community members also received education on various social issues such as Domestic Violence, Human Trafficking, Child Marriage, Teenage Pregnancy, Violation of Human Rights, and more.

Highlighting the Ministry’s mandate and the importance of social protection programs, Madam Lariba Zuweira Abudu disclosed that beneficiaries of LEAP now enjoy a one hundred percent increase in their cash grant, through government’s efforts.

She also mentioned ongoing discussions with the President to increase support for the school feeding programme.

Madam Lariba Abudu urged Chiefs and Community Leaders to refrain from endorsing or engaging in child labour, child marriage, and harmful witchcraft accusations.

The Chiefs expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Hon. Minister for extending the benefits of these community dialogues to their communities.

They pledged to apply the knowledge they gained and actively contribute to making their communities exemplify the efforts of the Ministry.

Several community members testified to the positive impact of the LEAP programme on their economic empowerment.
