The Health Committee of Parliament has revealed that an estimated amount of $1.4 billion will be needed to complete all ongoing Agenda 111 projects.

The committee also noted that, as of November 2023, over $251 million was already spent on the hospital projects with 90 out of 102 projects currently at various stages of construction.

Expressing concerns about the project, ranking Member on the health committee, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, said the government’s commitment to the Agenda 111 project is mere lip service.

The ranking member further stated after releasing $251.4 million for the project, the government can not boast of fully completing even 20 percent of the entire project.

He also noted what the government could have done is to rill out the project in phases to enable efficient use of funds meant for the project.

“Mr. Speaker, if we really meant well for the people of Ghana and not for political capital, what prevented us from rolling out these projects in phases and concentrating on maybe 10 of the projects to fully complete them and put them to good use.”

Mr. Akandoh added that the government’s commitment to the Agenda 111 projects is not there, adding that authorities have created an impression of completing the projects while they are nowhere near completion.

“What the government is saying out there is completely different but when they appear before the committee, they say funds are not available to complete projects. The least we can do as leaders is to be truthful to the people”.

President Akufo-Addo on August 17, 2021, inaugurated the construction of 111 district hospitals throughout the country to improve access to healthcare.
