The Eastern Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Jeff Konadu Addo has called on party members in the Region to exhibit friendly and peaceful character during and after the party’s internal contest.
Mr. Konadu Addo was speaking in an Interview on Republic FM’s Ghana This Week with Barima Atuobi Yiadom on Saturday, January 6, 2024, when he made the call.
The Regional Chairman intimated that, in the coming days, the party in the region will issue a press release to inform the party of its new guidelines.
According to Mr. Konadu, the party will assign one Constituency executive to each aspirant of the primaries ahead to monitor and observe what the aspirants will tell the delegates. He said this move is strictly to ensure that there’s insult-free, transparent and fisticuffs-free during their campaign.
However, he sounded a word of caution that, in case such situations occur, the party will institute stringent measures against the aspirants to serve as a deterrent to others.
‘Let me use this opportunity to pass on this information to our aspirants. We’re by the following days ahead, releasing a statement to all aspirants. We’re going to assign one Constituency executive to each aspirant during their campaign.
This executive will not be there to campaign for anyone, their mandate is to monitor and report to us what will transpire.
I’ve told my aspirants that I want a peaceful, co-existing and habitable region for the NPP to thrive. I don’t want insults and grudges during the campaign and that’s why we are forcing them to adhere to the rules and desist from attacking their opponents.
I will not allow anyone to cause discomfort in the party during my reign. We’re urging them to be vigilant and ensure their conducts co-exist with the party’s constitution and that of Ghana towards breaking the 8 agenda“, he stated.
The NPP opened vetting on Wednesday, January 3 and ended on Friday, January 5.
The Member of Parliament for Abetifi and Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr. Bryan Yaw Acheampong and the MP for New Juaben South and Deputy Trade and Industry minister, Michael Okyere Baafi went opposed. One of the candidates who was contesting the Deputy Trade minister was disqualified based on alleged forgery and impersonation.
The MP for Abetifi did not have any contest in his Constituency. A special acclamation is expected to be conducted for these already established candidates.
The party is expected to hold its national primaries for persons who have filed, vetted and being cleared to contest for the various seats of Parliament in the 2024 general election.
