The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare to put in place sound policies for peaceful and incident free elections come 7th December, 2024.
Otumfuo made this comment when the IGP, members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) and the Ashanti Regional Police Commander paid a courtesy call on the King.
According to Otumfuo, although the country can boast of peaceful elections in the past, there is always a lingering sense of fear and panic during such periods hence the need for the Police to take absolute control to ensure peace and order.
On measures being put in place, the IGP indicated that his outfit ensured utmost peace and tranquillity during the festive season.

He added that these measures played vital roles in reducing road accidents, robbery, and other crimes in the Ashanti Region and the country as a whole.
“We put a lot of measures in place, and the effect of these measures is evidenced in the peace that prevailed in the festive season. Some time ago, festive seasons came along with panic and fear due to the high rates of crimes and other unforeseen incidents that accompanied them. With our horses and motor deployment, police visibility and security were enhanced.”
The IGP also mentioned that, beyond the festive season, security and police visibility across the 16 regions in the country would not be compromised.
