Some supporters of the Black Stars who were sent to Côte d’Ivoire for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) have denied claims that they threatened to return to Ghana due to their unpaid stipends.

Media reports from Côte d’Ivoire indicated that the supporters had decided to return to Ghana due to failure of the government to pay them their $400 dollars as allowance which was promised them.

In a media engagement in Abidjan on Wednesday, the General Secretary of the Ghana Supporters Union (GSU), Kassim Awal confirmed that each and every one of the 210 supporters had received their $400, explaining that there was no point when they made their minds to come back home.

“It is already on social media that the Ghana supporters that are here in Abidjan threatened to return home for reason that they are not being taken care of. We want to state categorically that this allegation is not true. Before we embarked on this trip, we were made to know that before our first match, everything that we are due, will be given to us and just before our first match, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the accountant and their delegation came here ensured that each and every one received his or stipends stipends,” he said.

The GSU assured their hundred percent support to the Black Stars to ensure they beat Egypt on Thursday.
