President Akufo-Addo has appointed the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, as the new Chief of Defence Staff.
This follows the retirement of the Chief of Defense Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama from the Ghana Armed Forces after 40 years of service.
The appointment was announced in a statement from the presidency on Wednesday January 24, 2024.
According to the statement, “The appointment was made subject to consultation with the Council of State, pursuant to the provisions of Article 212 of the Constitution of the Republic.”
Additionally, the President has also appointed Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, the Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, as the new Chief of Army Staff.
Both appointments are expected to take effect of February 1, 2024.
