The Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has justified claims that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has the mandate to come up with his vision and priorities as he leads the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in breaking the 8.
According to him, the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, must articulate his vision as per Article 58 of the 1992 Constitution states that, executive power in the country rests with the president.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, February 8, he affirmed that, due to Article 58 of the 1992 constitution, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia can say he did not have any decision-making authority in the Akufo-Addo-led government.
Oppong Nkrumah further cited how Former President, John Dramani Mahama succeeded power from the late President Atta Mills.
“It is the reason why when President Mills passed on, President Mahama, his vice president at the time, had to hold his policy address. He held it at the Accra International Conference Center to outline his vision because, under Article 58, he had become the President. Now, as the President, he had to articulate his own vision”, Oppong Nkrumah explained.
The minister’s comment follows a lecture delivered by the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia themed GHANA’S NEXT CHAPTER: SELFLESS LEADERSHIP AND BOLD SOLUTION FOR THE FUTURE held at UPSA on Wednesday, February 7.
