The Ministry of Communications and Digitalization (MoCD) recently organized a digital skills training session at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (KACE) in Accra.
Dubbed the DigSMART Scale-up launch, the event took place on Wednesday, January 7th, 2024, with the primary goal of enhancing the technological proficiency of the workforce.
The aim is to equip them with the necessary digital skills to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of technology, thereby empowering them to contribute effectively to the advancement of the nation.
During a press conference, Dr. Evans Aggrey Darkoh, the head of Civil Service, underscored the importance of fostering technology literacy among citizens, particularly the workforce. He emphasized that in today’s fast-changing world, where technology is continually advancing, it is crucial for individuals and institutions to stay ahead of the curve to meet the growing demands and aspirations of the populace.
With citizens becoming more sophisticated, there is heightened pressure on the government and organizations to deliver services efficiently, even with limited resources.
Dr. Darkoh stressed the necessity of building the capacity and skills of the workforce to meet these demands effectively. He highlighted the significance of partnerships like the one with the Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, which aims to provide not only enthusiasm but also the necessary tools and competencies for delivering results.
This initiative builds upon previous efforts, with last year’s training session catering to 170 participants and this year’s scale-up expecting to accommodate over 800 trainees.
The New Publisher gathered that the overarching objective of the session was to ensure that a significant portion of the workforce is digitally adept, enabling them to drive positive change in service delivery across various sectors.
By equipping individuals with the right skills, the government aims to enhance its responsiveness to the needs of the people, thereby maintaining relevance in governance. Ultimately, the goal is to empower the workforce to play a proactive role in shaping the trajectory of development in the country.
MoCD, in collaboration with GhanaCARES, partnered with the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI) to implement DigSMART. Distinguished guests encompassed representatives from MoCD, Ministry of Finance (MoF), Office of The Head of Civil Service (OHCS), GI-KACE, Tony Blair Institute (TBI), Ministry of Trade and Industry (MOTI) and Ministry of Health (MoH).
