The Ghana Students Association in Hungary (GASH) has disclosed that approximately 215 Ghanaian students studying in Hungary are stranded due to unpaid stipends over the past months.

In a press statement dated April 4 and issued by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the association, they stated that the prolonged delay in payment of their monthly stipends by the Ghanaian government has affected their academic lives negatively as well as their mental health.

GASH further noted that, despite governments failure to pay the stipends for the 215 students comprising of undergraduate, Masters, and PhDs programmes, the Hungarian government has honoured its commitment to the scholarship agreement.

“Repeated appeals, manifested through letters, have been made to all stakeholders in Ghana, but sadly, no response has been received plunging these promising young individuals into desperation and disillusionment”, an excerpt of the statement read.

GASH has called upon the Government of Ghana, the Ministry of Finance, Ghana Scholarship Secretariat and other key stakeholders to hear their plea and take the necessary steps to solve their current situation.
