The Founder and Presiding Bishop of the Victory Bible Church International, Bishop N.A. Tackie-Yarboi has praised the high level of expertise of doctors of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

He said in spite of the challenges facing the Hospital, the expertise of the staff must be protected and valued.

Bishop Tackie-Yarboi said this at a short ceremony to donate four patient monitors and accessories to the Neurosurgery Unit of the Department of Surgery of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

He donated the monitors in appreciation of a successful surgical procedure he underwent at the Neurosurgery Unit.

The procedure, known as Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF), was performed on the Bishop by a team of Neurosurgeons at the Hospital. It involved the decompression of his spinal cord to allow it to recover from injury and complications.

Bishop Tackie-Yarboi expressed profound gratitude to the doctors and staff of the Unit for a successful surgery.

He said while searching for treatment options for his condition, he was amazed to find that what the neurosurgeons abroad recommended was the same treatment offered by the doctors in the Korle Bu, who initially diagnosed the condition.

He said he was thus convinced by the capabilities of the neurosurgeons in Ghana and opted to have the surgery done for him in Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Bishop Tackie-Yarboi urged Ghanaians who tend to travel abroad for medical care to rather seek treatment in Korle Bu where they will feel at home while receiving care.

He also advised the media and the public to be circumspect in their reportage and avoid spreading sensational stories and falsehoods that may deter patients from accessing healthcare services in Korle Bu.

Dr. Patrick Bankah, Head of Neurourgery Unit and Acting Head of the Department of Surgery thanked the Bishop and his team on behalf of the Chief Executive, Dr Opoku Ware Ampomah, for the donation.

He appealed for support from individuals and corporate organisations to improve the environment and provide logistics and diagnostic equipment to enhance healthcare delivery.

The team that undertook the procedure included Dr. Hadi M. Abdullah, Dr. George Wepeba and Dr. Richmond Hagan, from the Neurosurgery Unit; as well as Dr. Chris Owoo, an Anaesthetist/ICU Intensivist. Nurses who were part of the Surgical team were DCNO Mabel Muriel Okwei, DCNO Sharon Addo-Yobo, SSN Mary Anaman, Linda Akrasi and PNO Hannah Akuamoah.

Reverend Ministers and some members of the Victory Bible Church International accompanied Bishop Tackie-Yarboi to the ceremony. Also present from the Hospital were Core Sub-BMC members and other senior members of the Department to help Dr. Bankah receive the donation.
