Eschew politicising security issues – Interior Minister to politicians

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior has called on the Minister for the Interior, Mr Ambrose Dery at the Ministry in Accra to familiarize themselves with the current operations of the Ministry and also to inform the Minister of the Committee’s plan to visit some Agencies under the Ministry.

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior has called on the Minister for the Interior, Mr Ambrose Dery at the Ministry in Accra to familiarize themselves with the current operations of the Ministry and also to inform the Minister of the Committee’s plan to visit some Agencies under the Ministry.

The Members were; Hon. Kenndy Agyapong, Chairman of the Committee and Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Hon. James Agalga, a Ranking Member and also MP for Builsa North, Hon. Cletus Avoka, MP for Zebilla East, Hon. Helen Ntoso, MP for Krachi West, Hon. Christian Otuteye, MP for Sege, Hon. Peter Toobu, MP for Wa West, Hon. Kofi Adams, MP for Buem, Hon. Mohammed Bawah Braimah, MP for Ejura Sekyeredumase, Hon. Dr Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, MP for Klottey Korle, Hon. Ophelia Mensah, MP for Mfantseman, Hon. Benson Tongo Baba, MP for Talensi, Hon. Kwadjo Asante, MP for Suhum and Hon. Ernest Henry Norgbey, MP for Ashaiman.

The Minister, who is also the MP for Nandom, expressed his gratitude to the Committee for the courtesy call and assured the good people of Ghana of the Government’s commitment to ensuring an enabling environment in the country.

He said peace and security are very paramount in the development of any nation and for that reason, in 2018, the Government decided to retool the security agencies so that they can continue to perform their work and protect the citizens. He added that the Government will continue to ensure that the security services are well trained and retooled for the betterment of Ghana.

Mr. Ambrose Dery called for a strong collaboration between Parliamentarians, politicians and the public as a whole and eschew politicising security issues since security has no political colouration so that the country will be safe as we all yearn for.

The Members of the committee pledged their support to the Minister and said they will do their best and offer suggestions that would go a long way to benefit the people and the country as a whole.
