Head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, has stressed the significance of getting a win against Mali in their FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifying game.
Both teams will clash today, as they fight for a spot in the world’s most prestigious tournament.
Ghana is in Group I with Comoros, Mali, Central Africa Republic, Madagascar and Chad.
Having played two games already, the Black Stars are 5th in the group table with three points whiles Mali are 2nd with 4 points.
Speaking ahead of the game, Otto Addo explained how crucial it is for his side to pick all three points.
“It’s a very important match today for us. We are one point behind Mali and we have to win. This will be the best time to guarantee our chances for the World Cup, he said.
Admitting the strength of the opponent, he said it is still possible they will be able to beat them.
“We know it is going to be very tough because Mali has a very strong team and they showed recently in their games, beating Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire. It will be very difficult to beat them but we gave to try. We have a good team as well. In FIFA World rankings, they are above us so this shows how good and competitive they are. So for us, they are a very strong team but we have the possibility to stay put and we also have a good team and it’s going to be a difficult match,” he added.
The game will kick off at 7 pm at the Stade du 26-Mars in Bamako.
