Assin Nsuta Agricultural Senior High School in the Assin South District is grappling with a severe water crisis, forcing students to rely on stagnant, contaminated water shared with pigs and goats.
Reports suggest that the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. John Ntim Fordjour, and the school’s headmaster, Rev. William Quainoo, allegedly prevented an NGO from completing a borehole project meant to alleviate the issue.
The project was initiated by NDC parliamentary candidate Stephen Kofi Baidoo and was nearly finished when the MP’s intervention allegedly politicized the effort, halting the project.
As a result, students have no choice but to use the polluted water for drinking, cooking, bathing, and washing, leading to widespread health concerns, including skin rashes.
Students described their daily struggles, stating, “It’s causing skin rashes and other health issues.”
The chiefs of Assin Nsuta, led by Krontihene Nana Kusi, summoned Rev. Samuel William Quainoo, demanding an explanation for the delay in commissioning the borehole. Expressing his shock and disappointment, Nana Kusi said:
“I was unaware of the students’ predicament. This situation is unacceptable.”
The chiefs gave a 48-hour ultimatum for the immediate completion and commissioning of the borehole. They called for an end to politicizing essential projects and demanded accountability from the MP and school authorities.
