The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has strongly condemned the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate, Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), for his alleged arrogance and disrespect towards the dead.

Addressing a gathering in Ave Dakpa, Akatsi North in Volta Region, Mahama asserted that NAPO’s true character has been exposed since his selection as running mate, citing instances of his bad behaviour.

Mahama specifically referenced NAPO’s unveiling in Kumasi, where he reportedly said “Your Kwame Nkrumah,” which Mahama deemed disrespectful and arrogant. He jokingly remarked that in the past, the ghosts of those NAPO disrespected would have retaliated, but now they are “unarmed.”

Mr. Mahama also criticized NAPO’s recent statement referring to former President John Evans Atta Mills as “the one who is dead,” which he saw as a blatant disregard for the dead.

Mahama emphasized that while the living can respond to disrespect, the dead cannot, and such behaviour should not be tolerated. Mahama’s comments suggest that NAPO’s actions reflect a broader issue of disrespect and arrogance within the NPP.

He urged Ghanaians to reject the NPP’s disrespect and arrogance by voting against the party in the upcoming December elections. He implored citizens to use their ballots to send a strong message against the NPP’s dismissive attitude towards the dead and their lack of regard for the nation’s heroes.
