The Ghana Army has joined hands with its Partners, including Austria, Denmark, India, the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States of America (USA), to train fifteen (15) personnel into Special Forces Operatives, Snipers, and Special Dog Handlers, through eight months of rigorous training.

The joint graduation ceremony of the two training regimes – Special Forces Basic Course 3-2024, and Basic Sniper Course 2-2024, were held on Friday, 6 at the Army Special Operations Brigade (ASOB) Headquarters, Burma Camp, Accra, with the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Ghana Army – Major General (Maj Gen) Bismarck Kwasi Onwona decorating graduates with Special Forces Operators’ badges.

Maj Gen BK Onwona expressed pride in the graduates, stating that their dedication and perseverance, have earned them the prestigious Special Forces Operator’s Badge, marking their entry into the elite forces of the Ghana Army.

The COAS also expressed elation at the special operations dogs trained in Austria, and the part they play in the evolving security setup, due to the asymmetric nature of conflicts in Africa, and technological advancements.

He noted that the training of the new operatives had equipped them for challenging missions both domestically and internationally, and thus reminded them that their journey continues with further skills development, assuring them of his commitment to providing necessary logistics for ASOB.

General Onwona then commended the training facilitators from various military branches, and appreciated Ghana Army’s international partners, such as the USA, the UK, India, Denmark, Austria and others, for their support.

The graduation ceremony was preceded by a demonstration of a direct action operation to capture some high value targets, to ensure the security of the country.

Recognition was given to outstanding individuals, including Sergeant (Sgt) Kalatey Robert, who excelled in the Special Operations Dog Handling Course in Austria and AG 11, who was named Best in the Basic Sniper Course 2-2024.

Sgt Ayarik David was awarded for achieving International Distinction in the Platoon Sergeants Battle Course in the United Kingdom, while Roster No 004 emerged the Overall Best in the Special Forces Basic Course 3-2024.
