Three suspects accused of trafficking almost three tonnes of cocaine have pleaded not guilty to a series of narcotics-related offences before the High Court in Accra.
The accused — Isaac Quaicoe, Kenneth Cobbinah, and Mawuko Kudufia — are facing eight charges including conspiracy to possess narcotic drugs, trafficking, using property for narcotics-related activities, and money laundering.
Presiding over the case, Justice Ruby Aryeetey granted bail to all three. Quaicoe and Kudufia were each granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million, with two sureties to be justified with landed property.
Cobbinah, identified as a student of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), received bail in the sum of GH¢2 million with two sureties.
The charges relate to two separate cocaine consignments. According to court filings, between March 1 and March 7, 2025, the accused allegedly conspired to traffic 2,970 slabs of cocaine, weighing about 2,974.63 kilograms. This shipment was concealed in a Sinotruk Howo truck with registration number GT 6882-25, which was intercepted at Pedu-Junction, near Cape Coast.
Investigators say the trio had earlier trafficked an additional 90 slabs of cocaine from Takoradi to Tuba-Brigade in Kasoa on March 1, 2025.
Kudufia faces further charges for allegedly using his residence, located near the New Resurrection Ministry at Tuba-Brigade, for narcotics-related activity. He is also accused of laundering funds suspected to be proceeds of the drug trade — specifically, $37,600 and CFA 13 million.
The prosecution, led by State Attorney Derriek Acrah-Nyamike, outlined the charges on behalf of the Attorney-General’s Department. Defence counsel includes lawyers Victor Kwadjoga Adawudu and Paul Asibi Abariga.
The case has been adjourned to May 5, 2025, for the next hearing.
