Mpraeso MP donates Gh¢20k to Obo Kwahu Ridge SHS fire victims

The Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency, Mr. Davis Ansah Opoku affectionately referred to as OPK has donated the sum of Gh¢20,000 to the Kwahu Ridge Senior High and Technical school after fire gutted the school on Wednesday.

The Girl’s dormitory of the final year students at Obo Kwahu Ridge Senior High and Technical school (KRISTEC), was razed down by fire.

The cause of the fire outbreak is yet to established, however, preliminary reports say the fire may have been triggered due to some electrical faults.

Some female students occupying a dormitory project that was put up by the School’s PTA are currently left stranded.

The facility accommodated 172 students out of which 64 are marginally affected by the fire outbreak.

A report filed by Republic FM’s Andy Frimpong Manso suggest that, the fire began in the early hours of Wednesday, June 29.

Speaking in an interview with Andy Frimpong Manso, the Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency, Mr. Davis Ansah Opoku offered his sympathy to the students in this trying times.

“In the Early hours of today, the MCE called that there’s been some fire outbreak and we thought it wise to collectively come and first all of assess the damage caused by the fire outbreak and to also sympathize with you.

Myself and the MCE assures you that we are going to fix this tragedy, but for now, we are going to arrange a temporary solution to find to the problem.

We have spoken to the government and especially, the NADMO, who very soon will come to our aid and the ministry of education is also actively concern”,

The MP, donated the sum of Gh¢20,000 to the headmistress for the acquisition of students beds for the affected students.

“We are also here to assist. We present to you a token of Gh20,000 hut that will not be used for Gari or sardine but will be used for beds acquisition because the most important thing is to be very comfortable and I’m sure that with the gari and other foodstuffs, we will make arrangements for that”, he added.

The MCE, Emmanuel Atta Ofori Snr on his remarks, urged the students not to be dampened by the fire outbreak.

He promised that the yet to be completed dormitory will be given a face-lift to provide a comfortable and peaceful environment for the students.

He called on the headmistress to give him 14-days to furnish the first floor of the yet to be completed storey building dormitory for the students to move in.

The Kwahu South Municipal Assembly in a bid to provide an immediate relief for the students donated an additional Gh¢5,000 to the school.

No casualties was recorded. Items destroyed included, practical equipment, kitchen wares, textbooks and other learning materials of the students were severely damaged beyond recognition.
