The Attorney General’s Department has filed four criminal charges against Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), in connection with the alleged misapplication of US$2 million.

The charges, filed under Case No. CR/0448/2025 at the High Court (Criminal Division) in Accra, were announced by Attorney General Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi and former GIIF CEO Mr. Solomon Asamoah are both implicated in a broader scandal over funds allocated for the Accra Sky Train project, which the state claims was never realized.

Below are all four charges against Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi (2nd Accused):

Count One: Conspiracy to commit a crime — wilfully causing financial loss to the Republic
Count Three: Wilfully causing financial loss to the Republic
Count Four: Conspiracy to commit a crime — intentional dissipation of public funds
Count Six: Intentional dissipation of public funds
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi is jointly charged with Mr. Asamoah in two conspiracy counts. The charges stem from their roles in authorizing a US$2 million payment to Africa Investor Holdings Limited in 2019, allegedly without proper due diligence or GIIF board approval.

While Mr. Asamoah claims he had board approval for the payment, this assertion has been disputed by other board members.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi told investigators he signed the fund transfer based on Mr. Asamoah’s recommendation.

The state, however, argues that both men failed to follow GIIF’s internal investment protocols and have yet to account for the missing funds.
