A fatal road crash at Akomadan in the Offinso North District has claimed 12 lives, leaving others severely injured.
The crash reportedly occurred at about 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, directly opposite the Offinso North District Assembly. 
According to eyewitness accounts established that, a passenger van with registration number BA-2913-13 was traveling from Kumasi to Techiman when it collided with a truck with registration number GT-9771-25. The truck is believed to have offloaded goods in the northern part of Ghana and was returning south when the incident occurred.
Witnesses said the passenger van, carrying about 12 passengers, had overtaken two vehicles and was attempting to overtake a third when it crashed head-on with the oncoming truck. All 12 occupants of the van died at the scene. The truck sustained significant damage, but no fatalities were reported among its crew.
Personnel from the Ghana Police Service, NADMO, the Ghana Ambulance Service, and other emergency agencies were on site to assist with rescue and recovery operations.
The injured victims were immediately transported to the Nkekaasu Government Hospital for emergency medical treatment, where two persons are currently receiving intensive care.
Bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Nkekaasu Government Hospital morgue pending identification and preservation.
Speaking after the incident, Dr. Samuel Freeman Mensah, a gynaecologist at the facility, appealed to the general public to assist authorities in identifying the victims to enable their families to be contacted.
