A 16-year-old boy drowned while swimming in the River Nsaman at Apromoase near Kokoben in Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti region.

The deceased, Nana Kwame, was accompanied by two friends, who went to the river to swim on Monday, March 25.

According to an eyewitness, Agya Sei recounted the chilling sequence of events that unfolded. He said he received a call from a concerned resident who alerted him about the unfolding tragedy.

The eyewitness further narrated that he rushed to the scene, only to find the victim struggling to get out but eventually drowning due to the river’s current.

As the victim grappled with the treacherous waters, his companions, overwhelmed by fear, fled in panic, leaving him to confront his peril alone. Despite valiant efforts by community members to rescue him, the relentless grasp of the river proved insurmountable, sealing Nana Kwame’s fate in a heartbreaking turn of events.

As the deceased struggled to swim out of the river, his two friends looked on helplessly in fear and fled in panic, leaving the victim to call for help.

The community members’ attempt to save him from the river was unsuccessful, resulting in his tragic death.

Madam Janet Boakye aka Sister Yaa, the deceased’s mother who couldn’t control herself while speaking on the phone with Silver FM, said his son told her he was going to Kokoben but she only found out later that he had drowned.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
