Three persons including the driver and his mate were reportedly killed after a diesel tanker heading from Kumasi to Tepa exploded at Onyinanufo near Wioso in the Ahafo Ano South West District of the Ashanti Region.

The disaster occurred on Monday, May 24 when the speeding tanker collided with a passenger vehicle in the relatively small town.

The chief of Onyinanufo Nana Kwame Atuahene told said, the diesel carrier caught fire instantly and overturned.

The fire swept through the community of about 600 to 700 inhabitants, destroying most of the houses they live in whiles Cocoa and plantain farms were also burnt.

As a result, many of them have been rendered homeless. A two-year old boy is said to have been burnt to death.

Residents including the mother who lost her two year old son, Diana Asiedu told media that, their major worry is where they will sleep.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) as well as the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) were deployed to the scene to control the fire.
