Some field enumerators of the ongoing Population and Housing Census (PHC) have been attacked by residents of the Ahafo Ano North District of the Ashanti Region.
Sources say, some supporters of the assembly member of the Bonkrom Electoral area, Hon. Batule Godfred chased these officers with guns, cutlasses wanting to take their lives for reasons best known to them.
The Assembly Member authenticated the report given reasons that, communities within the Ahafo Ano North Region such as Abuagya, Gambia, Ogyam etc. were not allowed to write their names during the 2020 registration exercise by the Electoral Commission of Ghana saying they are not part of the region.
Hon. Batule added that, the Population and Housing Census enumerators were in those communities to list the structures.
He confirmed that, situation nearly turned into mob attack if the officers had not run for their lives.
“Yes! they chased them with guns and matchete for attempting to register their houses”, he disclosed.
