Residents of Tepa Akwasiase, a community in the Ahafo Ano North Municipality of the Ashanti region fear for their lives as some electricity poles are in critical state of decay.
The deteriorating state of electricity poles and compromised wiring has put the community on the brink of disaster.
According to residents, efforts to raise awareness about the impending danger have been met with apparent indifference from local authorities as authorities keep promising to solve the problem.
“We have sent constant appeals to local authorities about the dangerous condition of the infrastructure but nothing seems to be done.”
Concerns are growing that only a tragedy will spur action which residents say should not be the case.
The residents’ plea emphasizes the importance of maintaining safe infrastructure for community security and are therefore calling on the Ahafo Ano North Municipal Assembly, Volta River Authority (VRA), and Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) to take immediate action to prevent any pending disaster.
