The Ambassador of Denmark to Ghana, Tom Nørring, Chief Justice of Ghana-His Lordship, Justice Anin-Yeboah and the UNICEF Country Director in Ghana-Anne Claire Dufay jointly inaugurated one of the ten CF-GBVCs in Akropong in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of Ashanti Region.

Ambassador Tom Nørring encouraged residents to report cases of abuse to the Police to be processed to the court to deter people from indulging in such acts.

According to him, Denmark is helping to solve these serious violations by strengthening the path to justice through refurbishing ten Child -Friendly Gender-Based Violence Courts (CF-GBVC) across the country this year.

The features of these CF-GBVCs include special waiting area exclusively for victims of the abuse with a comforting décor designed with the child in mind. They are equipped with communication materials and CCTV cameras that allow children to testify without facing the perpetrators directly.

The ten courts are located in the new regions of Ghana and funded through Denmarks’ COVID-19 Response in Ghana project in partnership with UNICEF and the Judicial Service of Ghana. These complement ten others completed by Denmark through Danida in the ten old regions.
